Day 6: Friday

The day had finally arrived we were going home!

Everyone was beginning to miss our northern country Denmark. It seemed so far away, but in a few hours we would be home. The day started like all the other days, except that today everyone could feel the famous disease The hangover. We were all tired and worn out, when suddenly it was time to go. At the airport our stomachs could hold no more, we had to eat. And to our luck we found a Mc donald, and so the final feast of london began.

Day 5: Thursday

Thursday 22/3 – 2012

Today we were divided into six groups that would do some neighborhood analysis. We were group number 1, and we should make an analysis of Brixton. You could describe Brixton as a ghetto in London with a lot of small houses and dirt on the ground. There were a lot of Africans living in the area, but it seems like there was a good atmosphere in Brixton. The people seemed very free in their spirit, and they looked like people who listen to a lot of reggae music.

When we were finished, we were allowed to do whatever we want to do, and most of us shopped. We agreed with our teachers that we all should meet at Piccadilly Circus when the clock turned 18:45 because our class had to eat together. It was nice, and we could feel each other that we were excited to see what the evening would bring, because we were allowed to be out until two ‘o’clock AM.

Day 4: Wednesday

Wednesday d. 21/03/2012

The day started with a visit to a museum, the Imperial War museum. It had a large exhibition with world war 2, which gave a more in depth look at the war than the one we are used to.
We were allowed to walk by ourself, and see what intriged us the most. It had everything from tanks, jets, and guns, to nazi uniforms and the fight for survivability for the jews.

 After our visit to the imperial war museum, we took of to St. Martins in the field, which is a church that is known for its work with charity. The church itself has been rebuild, because the old church was infected with several plagues because of the poor people. But it was rebuld on 

the same principles as the one before.

After our visit to the museum, we went to see the National Gallery, and afterwards Trafalgar Square. At the museum we looked at pictures, and portraits painted by various artists. At trafalga square we saw a statue of lord nelson, which fought a great battle at the square.
But it was a nice experience, the sun was shining and we were having a blast.

Later that day we went to see the famous BBC, which is known for its multimedia news station. We got a look at the studios, and employees. We learned how it works on TV when all the fancy stuff is being used etc. It was indeed an educational tour, which we will benefit from.


The music student went to the british music experience which is a museum for british pop / rock, you could try to be like the musicians before you, by trying on different outfits and instruments. 



Later, we went to see the famous Tottenham Hotspurs play against stoke city on White Hart lane. Which was an awesome experience.

Day 3: Tuesday

Tuesday d. 20/3 2012

We started the day by travelling to Brixton, where we met with this guy. He was the chief of the largest street art magazine in Europe.

He showed us around the neighborhood, which were filled with paintings and stickers on the walls. He told about the “street art war” where gangs and such kept order in the streets, and made the calls, If you were allowed to hang your stickers on their walls. We also saw the “hall of fame” of street arts. The chief editor showed us this, where he told that it was allowed for everyone to make a drawing or put up a sticker anywhere. But also about how the times had changed, and how the older street artists had been through a lot more trouble, than the newcomers. They might even think they had it too easy nowadays.

After this guided tour around Brixton, we had our lunch break. We fed ourselves and fed the doves. We had some time to do our shopping at the Brixton market.

                     

Later this day, we got some time for shopping. Everybody got excited, and went towards the Oxford Street. We had the rest of the day to ourselves, which we used for shopping, eating, relaxing and perhaps a “little” drinking.

Day 2: Monday

Monday 19/03/2012

We started the day by taking the underground station to Waterloo and walked to Stamford Street where we met a Danish student on Kings College. He told us about life as a Danish student in multicultural London. He is going to finish his studies this summer, and when he is done, he wants to explore the world, and maybe get a job in another country.

After Nicholas was done, he showed us around on the ground and told us about the buildings and so on.

Afterwards we went to a mosque where the girls had to wear a scarf around their heads. At the mosque we met with a guy who told us about the Islamic religion. We were allowed to ask questions if there was something that we wanted to know or was wondering about.

 

Later on, we were supposed to visit House of Parliament, but it was not possible for us to get in, because the queen was visiting a few days later.

Then we decided to go to the church a few minutes away.

After visiting the church, we were allowed to go shopping. 

Day 1: Sunday

Even teachers get tired

It is 1:10 am, most of us haven’t slept, and we have a long day in front of us. Day one of our study tour has come and the destination is set: London! Estimated arrival: 9:35 am. That gives us about four hours of expected waiting time in Copenhagen Airport, but as with the unpredictable nature of flying, waiting time grew two and a half hours over time. 

Tired out we arrived at our destination at 1 pm and were accommodated in Hyde Park View Hostel in Bayswater, a western district of London. Afterwards we bumbled around the area, shopping and dining. At 6.15 pm the musical students walked through Kensington Gardens to The Royal Albert Hall for to experience a live performance of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The show: a strange mixture of laser lights, fireworks and the greatest classical schlagers in history.
